Parliamentary ‘ping-pong' is over and the controversial Illegal Migration Act will soon become law.

For a beleaguered Government that prioritised ‘stopping the boats' which carried 45,755 asylum seekers on dangerous and illegal Channel crossings last year, House of Lords approval on 17 July probably felt like progress.
