The sector cannot simply make blank cheque arguments

It will be crucial to show the new Government that investing in local government will provide a return for ministers, says Simon Edwards.

We begin 2020 with many of the same challenges and opportunities for local government as when I penned this column 12 months ago.

Despite advocacy successes last year, particularly in the Spending Round, our member councils are clear they are not out of the woods yet and it was in this vein that the County Councils' Network (CCN) released our priorities for the new Government after the General Election.
