Seeking clarity on localism

Mark Conrad considers whether Greg Clark should push David Cameron for a tighter coalition definition of ‘localism’.

So, MPs believe Whitehall bodies outside the DCLG have been slow to run with the ‘localism' baton handed to them by the brave few ministers – past and present – who have challenged the UK's centralist tendencies.

T'was ever thus, unfortunately. But what last week's excellent local government select committee report into the coalition's localism programme provided us with was an updated view of just where the problems now lie.
