We need the tools to make land owners and developers build

The Government should bring forward the Planning Bill in draft form so it is subject to pre-legislative scrutiny, according to chair of the Local Government Association Cllr James Jamieson.

The Planning Bill provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure reforms which will deliver safe, prosperous and healthy places for generations to come.

There are planning rules that simply do not work at the frontline, hence the need for reform. We need a planning system focused on delivering quality housing and improving the communities where they are built. This means infrastructure upfront, making sure housing addresses local need, having local jobs and sustainability.
