Whitehall’s most senior officials have accused ministers of staging a false debate on the future of public sector pensions.

Whitehall's most senior officials have accused ministers of staging a false debate on the future of public sector pensions – and pointed the finger of blame firmly in the direction of the Treasury.

In a scathing attack on the Government's pensions reforms, the usually-moderate FDA union, which represents senior public servants, accused Treasury chief secretary, Danny Alexander, of pre-empting continuing discussions over retirement reforms when he addressed the Institute for Public Policy Research last week.
