The Treasury has vetoed salary demands for 23 quango chiefs and senior civil servants since the coalition introduced its policy of intervening to block perceived public sector pay ‘excess', new figures reveal.

The Financial Times reported on 1 August its Freedom of Information request for details of vetoed pay deals. While the Treasury revealed that 23 deals for senior staff have been blocked or amended since the coalition came to power, it refused to reveal details of the individuals involved or the salary levels that were vetoed.
