A new type of council chief executive

Stephen Weigel makes the case for a new kind of council chief executive, with traditional values yet a modern approach.

Unfortunately, this year I will not be attending the LGA annual conference in Birmingham. Personally, this is a shame, as the three-day, two-evening event is good for new ideas, debate, networking and meeting valued colleagues.

It brings together senior politicians and senior officers, as well as private sector champions and predators, for a few busy days. And the value of these encounters can last for a long time afterwards.
