Underlying causes of riots next in spotlight

The independent Riots Communities and Victims Panel this week began the second phase of its inquiry – by turning its attention to tackling the tough, underlying causes of the summer’s disturbances across England.

The independent Riots Communities and Victims Panel this week began the second phase of its inquiry – by turning its attention to tackling the tough, underlying causes of the summer's disturbances across England.

As part of a series of detailed discussions planned over coming weeks, the panel – chaired by former Ealing LBC chief executive, Darra Singh – will take advice on how to: help reduce re-offending rates for the good of communities; tackle youth unemployment and a perceived lack of opportunities for youngsters; support young people to be responsible; support parents; improve local perceptions of the police; and use commercial and social brands to influence youngsters positively.
