Violence against staff: No easy answers

A robust risk management approach to dealing with violence against frontline staff is essential, but it is impossible to prevent every incident, says Claire Kober, 'and addressing the root causes is more challenging'.

Last month, Birmingham City Council confirmed that three employees in its housing options service were injured in a ‘serious incident', highlighting a troubling rise in attacks on public sector workers and their partners.

This incident prompted the council to temporarily close the office and led to calls from trade unions for a comprehensive security review.
