AI-facilitated deliberation has its risks

Approached with an appropriate level of caution, AI has the potential to transform the way local authorities both engage with local communities and design services to support them, says Claire Kober.

In a recent edition, the journal reported a study exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to help find common ground on contentious issues like Brexit, climate change, and immigration. The research saw 5,000 participants organised into groups to deliberate on various topics, some using AI mediators and others using humans.
