Waiting for council issues to get an airing

Local government has hardly featured in the initial debates of the Conservative leadership contest but that could be set to change given its importance to levelling up and reform of adult social care, says Simon Edwards.

The last few weeks have felt like a whirlwind, but after the flurry of debates and promises from a dozen candidates we now have a six-week period where we can expect both Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss to set out their visions for the country. 

Local government has hardly featured in the initial debates but that could be set to change as the sector is so intertwined with two of the most important policies of the outgoing Government: levelling-up and adult social care reform.
