Ministers are set to expand access to internships and work experience across Whitehall departments, as part of plans to improve social mobility and diversify the civil service's workforce.

Baroness Warsi, Cabinet Office minister without portfolio, announced on 5 April plans to make Whitehall a testing ground for the Government's ambition to kick-start social mobility in the UK, amid increasing evidence that senior positions in government and industry are still dominated by Oxbridge-educated, middle-aged men.
