With the deadline for councils to submit ‘expressions of interest’ having passed – but with so many questions remaining unanswered – the subject of devolution has been a hot topic for the sector this week. Labour have doubled down on prioritising the North, but not everybody sees this as the right move. Martin Ford reports

From the earliest days following its General Election victory in July, the Labour Government has shown an eagerness for devolution.

Among Prime Minister Keir Starmer's first visitors summoned to the door of 10 Downing Street was a group of regional mayors.
