Time for a frank debate on funding

Heather Jameson talks to the new chief of CIPFA Owen Mapley about having hard things to say to the new Government, devolution, and the importance of fixing audit

Owen Mapley may only be a few weeks into his new job as chief executive of accountancy body the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), but he has already seen a change of government and the start of a public policy pivot.

Mapley is speaking to The MJ in advance of the King's Speech. The direction of travel of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's new regime is still not clear, but the first few days have made it obvious this Government wants the public to see action.
