Government advisers back fiscal devolution

Fiscal devolution should be ramped up to enable local authorities to develop transport networks, according to the Government’s independent advisers on infrastructure strategy.

Fiscal devolution should be ramped up to enable local authorities to develop transport networks, according to the Government's independent advisers on infrastructure strategy.

While an increase of 20% in central investment in local transport to £8bn per year will be required, a report by the National Infrastructure Commission suggested there was a ‘strong' case for fiscal devolution to contribute to local public transport infrastructure.
