Councils face an increase in temporary accommodation costs of 33% resulting from a surge in homelessness over the past year, new research has shown.

Councils face an increase in temporary accommodation costs of 33% resulting from a surge in homelessness over the past year, new research has shown.

Government figures published today saw an increase of 12% in households owed a relief duty by local authorities, compared to 2022-23, reaching 178,560.
