Surge in data protection breaches reported

Five times more data breaches have been reported since the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), with local government among the most frequent offenders.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) received 1,792 self-reported personal data breaches in June, the first full month since the new law came into force, compared to just 367 notifications in April.
