£100m EU elections bill even if poll cancelled

The UK will still be landed with a close to £100m bill for the EU elections - even if they were cancelled before May 23, The MJ understands.

Regional returning officers have come to a collective agreement that casual staff who have accepted appointments to work as presiding officers, poll clerks, polling station inspectors, postal vote openers and count staff should have their fees paid in full regardless of whether the poll goes ahead.
