‘Don’t let devo burden taxpayers’

Communities secretary Eric Pickles has reaffirmed Conservative policy that the drive towards decentralisation should not further burden taxpayers.

His comments followed a joint letter issued 28 April by council chiefs from across the UK, who joined forces to call on the next government to make devolution an urgent priority.

Representatives from the Local Government Association (LGA), the Welsh Local Government Association, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) and the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) released a collective statement on devolution.
