Britain’s public leisure sector is teetering. Venues are closing, leisure trusts are failing and three quarters of local authorities fear that leisure facilities in their area are at risk.
This alarming predicament is a result of longstanding funding challenges that have plagued non- statutory sport and leisure centres for years, affecting maintenance, modernisation and now the high up-front costs associated with decarbonising facilities.
