This is the last District View I will write in my role as chair of the District Chief Executives’ Network (DCEN).

It has been a great honour to act as chair of the group for the last two years and I hope my time at the helm has proved fruitful in maintaining and promoting the key role of district councils in delivering public services.

The first Queen’s Speech of the new Government had great relevance for local government with important bills on devolution and housing.

The detail of the latter will be important but potentially has great significance for those district councils that still hold their own housing stock especially those in high value areas, notably around London.
