Councils 'overwhelming' justice system

The incoming head of the family division of the High Court has attacked councils for fuelling the applications ‘crisis’ overwhelming the justice system.

Lord Justice McFarlane spoke out after care applications last month reached the second highest figure ever recorded – a situation which, he said, had created ‘wholly untenable’ workloads for staff across the courts system.
