Lib Dem tax pledge gets poor reception

Liberal Democrat plans to create more council tax bands are a sign of the ‘hollow promise of devolution’ according to the chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, Rob Whiteman.

Mr Whiteman claimed local government finance was ‘in need of serious attention’ but he described Lib Dem plans as an attempt to ‘retrofit local taxation to try to fund central government’s problems’.
