Lib Dems commit to higher council tax bands

Senior Liberal Democrat ministers have used the Party’s last annual conference before next year’s General Election to state their commitment to increasing the number of council tax bands.

It is understood the Lib Dems hope to raise an additional £1.5bn in revenue, cash to be set aside for deficit reduction, by creating new higher rates of council tax charges that would apply to properties worth more than £2m.
