Regenerating rundown communities

Sajid Javid’s investment in rundown estates is welcome, but it’s essential that council leaders and housing associations look at more than just bricks and mortar when planning their regeneration. For real change to occur, councils and housing associations need to invest in their residents as well as in the infrastructure itself.

Having worked with estates across the whole of Lambeth, I have seen first-hand how beautiful buildings and manicured lawns alone do not change the culture or future of estates – in fact, they can have quite the opposite effect.
