There’s an election in the offing so suddenly councillors are thin on the ground.
We have all out elections for both councils on new boundaries so there is a greater degree of uncertainty than usual about the outcome.
Because the number of seats overall is reducing by 25%, some councillors have seen this as a good opportunity to stand down and pursue other interests. I will not be surprised if around 50% of each new council comprises new faces.
I am always in admiration of councillors; most put in long hours representing their local communities, and in rural areas that can involve attending 10 or more parish council meetings a month.
