Council capacity to respond to cost of living 'highly limited'

Local government officers feel their hands are tied in how much support they can realistically provide to their communities, a think-tank has found.

A report today by the Centre for Progressive Policy (CPP) said years of severe funding cuts, small pots of funding with strict spending criteria and the lack of a long-term financial settlement meant that local authorities’ power to respond to the cost of living crisis was ‘highly limited’.
