Count mistake 'damaged trust in elections'

A failure to count 1,000 votes by Barnsley MBC ‘damaged trust in elections,’ an investigation has found.

After being called in to review last May’s elections, the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) found ‘no evidence of actual or attempted electoral fraud’ but several issues ‘independently and collectively contributed’ to the failure to count a box of postal ballot papers.
