Lords attack 'fast-track reorganisation clause'

Lords have hit out at amendments to the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill that would allow for fast-track structural and boundary changes in two-tier areas.

Labour peer Lord Beecham this week tabled a proposed change to Amendment 36, which would enable the secretary of state to make regulations for speedy reorganisation without the need for unanimous consent of the affected councils.
