Retrenchment would be the worst thing councils could do

Funding cuts continue to dominate the local council agenda and last week’s announcement of 2015/16 funding grants will provide little by way of either surprise or respite to England’s local authorities. 

While an average cut of 1.8% in and of itself may not be catastrophic, it’s the cumulative impact of systemic funding cuts over several years that presents such a challenge for today’s councils.
