Council tax hikes won’t be enough, Hunt warned

Council tax rises alone will not be enough to bridge the gaping budget shortfalls faced by local authorities, the sector has warned ahead of tomorrow’s Autumn Statement.

Inflation, national pay increases and demand for social care have fuelled the funding crisis engulfing the sector that has this week seen two counties warn of approaching bankruptcy.
